Terms of use
Last updated 13 October 2026
CueLevel is free to use, at home or at work. It comes as it is, without a guarantee, so always listen to your levelled cues before a show.
These terms are an agreement between you and Chugs (“we”, “us”) about the CueLevel app and cuelevel.com. By downloading, installing or using CueLevel, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use CueLevel.
1. Your licence
We give you a free, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use CueLevel on Macs you own or control, for personal or commercial work, including levelling cues for shows and events you are paid for.
You may not sell, rent or sublicense CueLevel; distribute modified copies of it; remove its notices; or use it to break the law. You may not reverse engineer it except where the law allows it.
CueLevel includes open-source components, listed on the open-source licences page. Each is licensed under its own terms, and nothing in these terms limits the rights those licences give you. In particular, FFmpeg is provided under the GNU LGPL 2.1 or later.
2. Your files
Your audio and video stay yours. CueLevel works on your Mac and writes levelled copies; it doesn’t change your originals. You are responsible for having the rights to the files you process and play, and for keeping backups of anything that matters to you.
3. Check before the show
CueLevel measures loudness with the EBU R 128 and ITU-R BS.1770 methods and applies the gain it calculates. Measurements describe the files, not your room or your system, and some material can’t reach a target without going over the peak ceiling. Listen to levelled cues and check them at soundcheck before relying on them in a performance. Keep your system protected with appropriate limiting and safe listening levels.
4. Updates
CueLevel can check for new versions and offers to install them. Updates are covered by these terms unless they come with their own. You can turn automatic checks off in About CueLevel.
5. No warranty
CueLevel and cuelevel.com are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or that the software will be uninterrupted or error-free. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, bookings or goodwill, or for interrupted or cancelled performances, arising from your use of, or inability to use, CueLevel or this website, even if we were told such damage was possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to CueLevel or these terms is limited to US$50.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
7. Ending these terms
You can stop using CueLevel at any time by deleting it. If you break these terms, your licence ends automatically. Sections 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8 continue after it ends.
8. General
- Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your country requires otherwise.
- Trademarks. “CueLevel” and the CueLevel logo belong to Chugs. Other names mentioned on this site belong to their owners, and mentioning them doesn’t imply endorsement.
- Changes. We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use CueLevel after a change means you accept it.
- Whole agreement. These terms, together with the privacy page, are the whole agreement about CueLevel. If part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
